SmartCite supports hyperlinking inline references to the corresponding reference in the bibliography, starting with 2.4.68 (May 2022) . To enable this feature, choose Options > Turn on hyperlinks to bibliography.
Please note that when using this feature, if you click into an inline citation, Word will hyperlink you to the bibliography section. While editing your document, this may not be the desired behavior, if for instance, you wanted to edit the inline citation. If you wish to edit an inline citation (e.g. to add another reference or rearrange references) while the hyperlinks feature is turned on, position the cursor near the inline reference and use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move the cursor to the inline reference. Upon doing so, you will see the edit options in the SmartCite panel. Alternatively, you may choose to turn off the hyperlinks feature while you are actively editing the document, and then turn it back on when you're finished and ready to share your document.
As always, please contact us if you have any questions.
Note: This feature was introduced with version 2.4.68 (May 2022), and replaced a previous function which would generate hyperlinks but flatten the document for exporting. Starting with 2.4.68+ the hyperlinks feature will not flatten the document, so you can continue modifying the document's inline references and bibliography styles. Note, if you wish to flatten the document for exporting, you can still use the "Convert to Plain Text" function.
